Why exercise with a PT?
Why exercise with a PT?

Many people find the hardest thing about exercise is the consistency and discipline required to see progress. A PT ensures you keep up with a routine, push yourself that bit harder, and remain accountable. It also means you can be confident that you are exercising correctly, safely and effectively, with a programme that is completely tailored to your body and your goals. As an expert in the industry, I’ll use my knowledge and experience to ensure your workouts are as effective as they are enjoyable, giving you the confidence to keep fit in a way that you know you can stick to.

Where are sessions held?

In person sessions are held in my fully equipped home studio in Guildford, Surrey, a five minute drive north of the town centre. Get in touch if you would prefer online sessions or for me to travel to you, as these are both options I can accommodate.

When do you have availability?

I have good flexibility and can offer 1:1 PT sessions any day of the week, from 8am to 10pm. I strongly recommend committing to at least one session a week, but sessions can be more ad hoc if needed. Get in touch to find out what slots I have available.

What happens at the consultation?

I will send you a couple of short questionnaires to fill out prior to the consultation, one will be a health questionnaire and another will be about your goals, exercise history and what you want from our sessions together. We can then chat in more detail about it at the consultation. This can be done online or in person. If in person, I can also offer a free taster session in the studio to give you a better idea of what training with me will involve. I'll also chuck in a tea or coffee!

What happens during a 1:1 PT session?

We’ll start with a warm-up, before moving onto the main body of the session. Depending on your goals, this could be a combination of resistance training using weights, HIIT (high intensity interval training), core strengthening and/or conditioning work. We’ll finish the session with a cool down and stretch. We can also spend time discussing nutritional plans, assessing your progress and discussing future goals.

I’ve got an ongoing injury, can I still train?

Maybe that dodgy knee or bad back has had you avoiding training with weights in case you make things worse. The reality is that strength training can actually help alleviate pain and reduce the risk of reoccurrence further down the line, provided it is done safely (and your doctor has cleared you for exercise). A strong back is less likely to get injured than a weak back. If you are an older trainee, strength training helps improve bone density and joint strength and will contribute to warding off diseases like osteoporosis. You are never too old to lift weights. And ladies, to dispel a common myth, lifting weights will not make you ‘bulky’!

How many sessions should I do?

I strongly recommend committing to at least one session a week. This will be dependant on how many times you can commit per week to exercise, and how many of these sessions you want to do with me. For example, you might want to work out in total three times a week, once with me, and twice on your own. In this case, I would set up workouts for you to do on your own.

What do I wear to a PT session?

Anything comfortable, preferably sports clothing, and a pair of trainers. Also remember to bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated. You might also want to bring a small towel.

Are you available outside of sessions?

Sure! You’re welcome to drop me a message any time between sessions if you need some help or advice.

How do you track my progress?

We can set specific goals and make a plan on how to achieve them. Depending on your goals, it can be a combination of body measurements and regular weigh-ins on my body composition scales which can show you everything from body fat to bone density. For strength goals, your progress will be clear from the increase in the weights you are lifting. If you want to improve your running, for example, you should notice an improvement in your running times.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you can't make a session you will need to provide at least 24 hours' notice, otherwise I will still charge for the session (other than in exceptional circumstances).

Is there an expiry period on block bookings?

Yes, there is a 14 week expiry period on blocks of 10, and a 6 week expiry period on blocks of 4. I can extend this at my discretion (for holidays or illnesses for example).

Do you run group classes?

I run outdoor group classes during summer - contact me to find out more.
